Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of being the "most corrupt CM" in the country.
During the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam, Gandhi alleged that not only is Sarma deeply mired in corruption, but spreads hate all the time.
Addressing a gathering in Barpeta town, the Congress leader said, "The Chief Minister of Assam (Himanta Biswa Sarma) spreads hate all the time and takes away your (referring to the public) lands...if you eat a pan, the business of supari is his...he is the most corrupt chief minister."
The conflict between Gandhi and Sarma escalated when the Assam Chief Minister directed the state police to file a criminal case against Gandhi for allegedly provoking a crowd after a clash between Congress workers and police on the outskirts of Guwahati.

The incident occurred when the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Gandhi, was stopped from entering Guwahati to prevent traffic jams, according to Sarma. Gandhi retorted by describing the actions taken by Sarma as intimidation tactics that would ultimately benefit the Congress party's yatra.
Gandhi continued his critique of Sarma, accusing him and his government of spreading hatred and causing division among people based on religion.
The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' resumes from Barpeta in Assam on the 11th day of its journey on January 24.
This extensive campaign, which began on January 18th from Sivasagar, is set to cover 17 districts across Assam over a span of eight days.
The yatra, having traversed a significant distance of 833 kilometres, has been marked by various public interactions and roadshows.
The yatra entered Assam from Nagaland at Haluating and has since made its way through several districts, with Gandhi leading roadshows and engaging with the public at multiple stops.
