If Congress is being arrogant, they need to be reminded of their 15-year rule: Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi

Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi has sharply criticized the Congress party and its leader Bhupen Bora for their decision to contest five upcoming by-election seats in Assam independently.

Gogoi expressed concern that this move would weaken opposition unity, which had been a critical factor in recent electoral successes. He even accused Borah and Congress party being arrogant.

During a press conference, Gogoi conveyed his disapproval of what he perceived as Congress' arrogance. "If the Congress has gained arrogance after receiving a small response from the people because of the unity of the opposition in the Lok Sabha elections, then the Raijor Dal will give them an appropriate counter-answer in the upcoming by-elections," he asserted. This statement hints at a growing political rivalry between Raijor Dal and Congress.

Gogoi's comments were in response to Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah's announcement on Tuesday that the party would contest all five Assembly seats in the upcoming by-elections. Borah mentioned that this decision was reached during a meeting chaired by AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh with district-level party leaders on Monday.

Reiterating the party's commitment, Borah posted on X, "@INCAssam would contest all the 5 seats where byelections would be held. We would constitute 5 teams of senior leaders who would reach out to the grassroots."

The Election Commission is yet to announce the bypoll dates. The Assembly seats up for election are Samaguri, Behali, Dholai, Sidli, and Bongaigaon. These seats became vacant after the incumbents were elected to the Lok Sabha, with Samaguri being the only seat previously held by Congress.
