India Today NE impact: Income Tax raid on alleged coal mafia in Margherita

A team of the Income Tax Department from New Delhi conducted raids at the residences coal mafia bosses, Bayani Ganesh, Sunil Gurung and Guvin Chetry, at Margherita in Assam's Tinsukia district. 

The trio are accused to be associated with illicit coal activities in the region. Both the houses of Guvin Chetry and Sunil Gurung are situated at Bargolai Bashbari field while Bayani Ganesh house is at Thana road in Ledo.

The Income Tax raid commenced in the early hours of December 1 as officials descended upon the properties connected to the coal mafia. The operation is part of the government's ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities in the coal mining sector.

This development comes in the wake of a Exclusive Ground Report by India Today NE on November 9, which reported on the persisting issue of illegal coal mining in Assam.
