Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the historic occasion of memorandum ceremony of tripartite agreement between the government and ULFA pro talks faction on December 29.
In his press address CM Sarma said that since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014, more than 8200 cadres of militant organizations surrendered in Assam.
The agreement, witnessed by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, is a testament to the concerted efforts to bring about an insurgency-free Northeast, aligning with Prime Minister Modi's vision of peace, prosperity, and all-round development for Assam and its neighboring states.
The surrender of such a large number of cadres is indicative of the success of the government's policies and initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts that have plagued the region for decades. The Ministry of Home Affairs, guided by Prime Minister Modi, has been instrumental in signing nine peace and border-related agreements with different states in the Northeast over the last five years, contributing to the establishment of peace across a significant part of the region.
The reduction in violent incidents, deaths, and kidnappings by 87 percent, 90 percent, and 84 percent respectively since 2014 further underscores the effectiveness of these peace initiatives. The latest agreement with ULFA includes provisions for the group to lay down arms, disband their armed organization, vacate occupied camps, engage in peaceful democratic processes, and uphold the integrity of the country.
This milestone reflects the broader vision of an insurgency-free Northeast and marks the beginning of a new era of peace, not only for Assam but for the entire region, fulfilling a key aspect of the Modi government's commitment to national security and regional development.
