Pro-Khalistan propagator and radical preacher Amritpal Singh surrendered in Punjab’s Moga on April 23 after a month-long chase.

Amritpal Singh addressed a gathering at a Gurdwara in Rode village of Moga district before his arrest. He was arrested from the Gurdwara, as per officials.

He was arrested at around 6.45 am today morning in Rode, the native village of Khalistani separatist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala, who was killed in Operation Blue Star.

Punjab Police has invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against Amritpal Singh and will be flown to Assam’s Dibrugarh jail shortly.

Punjab IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill while speaking to the media on April 23 said that Amritpal was left with no option but surrender as the police had surrounded the Gurdwara from all sides.

“Police did not enter the Gurdwara to maintain sanctity of the area. We could not have entered the holy place wearing uniform”, said Sukhchain Singh, Inspector General of Police, Punjab
