Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's visit to Assam while entering the fifth day of 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' was not all 'sweet' as the rally faced the protest led by ousted youth Congress leader Angkita Dutta at the Amguri intersection.
The Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra from East to West of the Congress which started from Manipur on January 14 entered Assam today, January 18. Starting the journey from Tuli in Nagaland this morning, entered Hulongting on the Assam-Nagaland border.
Rahul Gandhi entered Assam with the aim of reaching out to the people of Assam through this Nyay Yatra.
At the same time, former Congress leader Angkita Dutta, who was recently removed from the Congress, staged a protest knowing the yatra will pass through the route. Dutta was joined by hundreds of activists. Angkita's team had put up banners and posters in Amguri as well as Hulongting asking Rahul Gandhi if women would get justice.
Banner, posters were put up near Rahul Gandhi's rally in Hulongting, following which state Congress president Bhupen Bora and Debabrata Saikia gave speeches followed by Rahul's speech. Noteworthy, workers had draped and covered the posters put up by Angkita Dutta.
Congress national leader Rahul Gandhi left the venue after addressing for just five minutes at a gathering of around 1300 people at the venue
The protests and posters of Angkita Dutta forced Gandhi to cancel several other previously designated programmes.
Earlier as per the schedule, rallies were supposed to go through Amguri town and visit to Rajiv Bhawan and that is why a number of cultural troupes were kept ready for the implementation of the cultural programme.
Rahul Gandhi immediately called off all the programmes and re-routed to Mariani in order to not face Angkita Dutta's protest in Amguri town. The people of Amguri are angry with Gandhi's act.
