BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli while speaking on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' which will kickstart from Manipur today said that Gandhi's political campaigns have no meaning as the party leaders have visited the Northeast region only few times during their 60 year regime.
"These words that the Congress party uses for Rahul Gandhi's political campaigns...they have no meaning...Compare the Northeast only, that's where Rahul Gandhi is starting his yatra from, Manipur. In the last 60 years, compare that with PM Modi's nine or ten years. How many times did the Congress UPA government or its prime minister ever visit the Northeast?" said Nalin Kohli.
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the northeast region, Kohli further added, "PM Modi has come here in the last nine years over 60 times. More than 400 visits by the ministers of PM Modi's government. Internet, highways, airports and railways at a pace never seen before. Airports have increased from 9 to 17, second railway station opened in Nagaland after a hundred years. The Congress party was sleeping. Basically, under Atal ji's government, the BJP had said 'look east'. PM Narendra Modi has made it into 'act east'. For the Congress party, they never looked at the Northeast, they never acted for the Northeast. For them, these are only marketing words for Rahul Gandhi's rebranding, yatra, political things..."
The Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, a journey spanning 6,700 kilometers across 110 districts in 15 states, is set to begin at noon today. The start point is the Khongjom War Memorial in Manipur's Thoubai, with a tribute ceremony, followed by a launch at Myay Maidan, Khongjom.
The day's itinerary includes a break at Koirengei Bazar in Imphal at 5:30 pm and an overnight stay at the Koujengleima Sports Association Football Ground in Imphal's Sekmai. Rahul Gandhi, leading the Yatra over 67 days, aims to engage with different societal groups, including farmers, laborers, Dalits, tribals, among others. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, before departing from Delhi, emphasized the party's objective of reaching every household until justice is served.
The Yatra's purpose, according to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, is to advocate for social, economic, and political justice. The word 'Nyay' (justice) has been incorporated in the Yatra to address injustice issues, added Congress MP Rajiv Shukla.
The Yatra aims to address critical issues like unemployment, inflation, national security, women's rights, which have been overshadowed by distractions. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and other leaders expressed hope for unity and significant change in the country with the Yatra's launch.
