Security personnel detains man with crab snake in Bijni, Chirang district

In a significant operation, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) detained a man with a crab snake at Gendabazar in Bijni, Chirang district. The operation, led by Inspector Umesh Kumar of the fighter company in SSB's No. 15 battalion, resulted in the rescue of a 10-inch crab snake and the arrest of one individual.

The arrested person, identified as Abdul Awal (26), provided crucial details to the media about the incident. According to Abdul Awal, a Bangladeshi man named Ghulam Rabani brought the crab snake to their home with the help of Abdul's brother, Matleb Miah.

"A Bangladeshi man came to our home and went to my brother's house. I didn't know him, but he was in contact with my brother and came along with him. He brought this crab snake from somewhere—I don't know where—and kept it in my brother's shop. I didn't know anything about it until Umesh sir called me and asked where I was. I told him I was nearby, and he asked me to meet him. When I arrived, Umesh sir asked me to open something. I did, and that's when I saw this crab snake. Umesh sir then gave it to me and told me to keep it with me. He asked me to call my brother, so I did and asked him to come, but he didn't show up. After that, they arrested me," said Abdul Awal.

The operation was part of a raid conducted by the SSB at Genda market in Bijni. The raiding team managed to rescue the crab snake and detained Abdul Awal, while Ghulam Rabani and Matleb Miah reportedly fled.

Following the arrest, the SSB team handed over Abdul Awal and the rescued crab snake to the forest department's Bijni depot office for further investigation and appropriate action.
