Shaulmari village in Assam lacks a permanent bridge, appeals to Himanta Biswa Sarma

77 years since India's Independence, the residents of the newly formed Srijangram assembly constituency in Bongaigaon district in Assam continue to endure life without a permanent bridge over the Shaulmari river.

Every year, the people in Shaulmari are forced to build temporary bridges with their own funds, only to see them washed away by the annual floods. The lack of a permanent solution has left students and locals struggling, with each monsoon season bringing renewed hardships.

Successive MLAs have made promises to construct a bridge but have repeatedly failed to deliver. As a result, the burden of rebuilding falls on the shoulders of the local residents, who have spent over Rs 1 lakh this year alone on makeshift solutions. The persistent absence of action from elected representatives has left the community frustrated and desperate for change.

The people of Shaulmari are now appealing directly to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging him to prioritize the construction of a permanent wooden or concrete bridge. They hope that with the Chief Minister's intervention, a long-term solution can finally be realized, sparing future generations from the same struggle.
