Will bring back those associated with BJP: Himanta Biswa Sarma slams Congress' membership tactics

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the Congress party's policy of expanding membership ahead of elections.

He stated that while the Congress focuses on increasing its numbers just before polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s approach is more sustained, emphasising consistent engagement through local-level efforts.

Taking to his X handle, Sarma wrote, "We are trying to bring back all those who were associated with BJP. We are trying to bring back those who will strengthen the organisation. But we will not adopt the policy of Congress, where people lost the election because of Ashok Tanwar ji a few hours before the voting."

The Assam CM stated that the least the party could do is garner 5-6 seats of the total 70, further adding that the practice is usually followed in other parties as well.

Meanwhile, CM Himanta remarked that he doesn not add people to the party unnecessarily.

Furthermore, he informed of the seat-sharing discussion held with the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) among NDA partners for the assembly elections in Jharkhand, stating that the first list of candidates would be announced within 48 hours of the declaration of the polls.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said, "Seat-sharing among NDA partners is almost final. As soon as the Election Commission declares the model code of conduct (MCC) we will issue the first list within 24 to 48 hours. We are waiting for the EC's announcement."
