You cannot say 'Jai Shri Ram' and preach hatred, says Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi

In a stark denunciation of the misuse of religious slogans to propagate hatred, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi asserted in parliament the primacy of moral and constitutional values in governance.

Gogoi stated the fundamental principles of dharma, stressing the importance of truth, compassion and service to humanity in guiding the actions of individuals and the state. He sai that these values are not only integral to religious teachings but also foundational to the governance of India.

Gogoi specifically called out the misuse of the popular religious chant "Jai Shri Ram" to incite aggression and division. He argued that genuine devotion to figures like Lord Rama cannot be reconciled with actions that promote hatred, violence or discrimination against others.

Highlighting the significance of the Indian Constitution, Gogoi stated that it stands as the singular governing document, embodying democratic principles and guaranteeing justice for all citizens. He stressed the need to uphold these principles above any narrow sectarian interests.
