Dimapur gets 50-bed COVID-19 ward in civil hospital

DIMAPUR: Dimapur today got a separate 50-bed Covid ward at Dimapur civil hospital with all infrastructure facilities provided by Round Table India and 41 Clubs India, an NGO, under the project ‘One More Breath’.

The trust provided entire facilities, including all required medical equipment, beds, bedsheets, pillow covers etc, in the ward at a cost of Rs 70 lakh under the initiative of the Dimapur branch of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). The consignment was brought from Delhi.

The Covid ward was inaugurated by Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom.

Until now, the Covid patients at the civil hospital, which was converted to Covid hospital after the breakout of the pandemic, were being treated at the wards meant for other patients. However, the government on June 28 decided to treat other patients as well in the hospital.

Addressing the inaugural function, Phom termed the day as a red-letter day for the people of Dimapur.

He acknowledged the kind gesture and holistic support of the trust towards the medical department and the State government to usher in the best healthcare facilities.

He said the assistance received from the NGO will tremendously help the needy people.

He was all praise for the trust for its help to uplift the health infrastructure in the hospital. “This is something extraordinary. This will be imprinted in history,” Phom stated.

He appealed to everyone to work cohesively to win the battle against Covid. “We can fight Covid by self-disciplining ourselves and following the SOPs issued by the government,” he added.

Dimapur deputy commissioner Rajesh Soundarajan, who is also the president of IRCS Dimapur branch, said Dimapur being gateway to Nagaland and commercial hub of the State had witnessed 60 percent of the total Covid cases in the State. “Although the positive cases have come down now, we cannot be complacent,” he stated.

He said everyone must be prepared for any eventuality. Soundarjan expressed appreciation to Round Table India Trust for providing the much-needed help to treat Covid patients in the civil hospital.

Navin Kejriwal from Round Table India Trust Delhi, who took special interest in making the project successful, his colleagues from Delhi and Guwahati besides IRCS members from Dimapur, doctors and nurses of the hospital were present on the occasion.
