GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court's Kohima Bench has ordered the Nagaland government to reopen the state's anganwadi centres.

The order was issued on Wednesday by the Kohima Bench of Justice Songkhupchung Serto and Justice S. Hukato Swu, who were hearing a public interest case.

According to reports, advocate Neiteo Koza stated on behalf of the petitioner that the closure of the angawadis denied lactating mothers and infants of essential nutrition.

Due to the pandemic, the economically disadvantaged have an even greater need for nutritional supplements to strengthen their immune systems against COVID-19 and the State government should reopen anganwadi centres, Koza said.

“It is common known that the poor have been affected the hardest during this pandemic and they are in need of any assistance that can be provided,” the court stated.

As a result, it should be the goal of everyone in charge to bring such services or advantages to their doorstep, the court added.
