Help Naga Students Stuck due to COVID-19 Lockdown: Naga Students' Federation to Govt

Kohima, March 25, 2020:

The Naga Students' Federation on Wednesday urged the Nagaland State Government to accommodate the Naga people who are stuck outside their homes due to the nationwide lockdown.

It has suggested the State Government to "issue directives to the RCs/DRCs/ARCs of the Nagaland state guest houses/bhavans in various cities to accommodate the Naga people left stranded on the streets due to the nationwide lockdown and that measures be taken for compulsory quarantine of the guests."

The Naga Students' Federation also acknowledged the Nagaland State Government for taking preventive measures amid novel coronavirus or COVID-19. It extended its heartfelt gratitude to the State Government and its agencies for its 'proactive role' in this crucial hour of the pandemic and forwarded a few suggestions that the authorities can adopt.

"Provisions be made to provide personal protection kit to all those attending to the guests and working in the various state Bhavans," read a letter forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland.

The Naga students' body also stated that the in-charges of the State Bhavans should be instructed to store essential goods in order to reach out and help the needy. "Special permission be granted to the Naga leaders and volunteers in various cities to venture out during the lockdown and help those Naga people in need of their services and that their conveyances requirements be taken care of by the state government," stated the body.

Additionally, the NSF has requested the Government to extend financial assistance the the student bodies across the country so that those can help the Naga residents living in the cities.

It may be mentioned here that the Nagaland Government is taking preventive measures to keep the coronavirus away. In the Northeast region, Manipur and Mizoram have reported one positive COVID-19 case each. Therefore, the Northeast States are now strictly following all possible preventive measure to protect their people.

In India, a total of 562 people have been infected with the virus. Eleven people have died so far. The country is currently in lockdown with a few essential services operational.
