A Shortland Island webbed frog, one of the world's largest frogs is said to have been discovered, measuring nearly 10 inches long and weighing about 2.2 pounds.
The frog must have been very old, according to Jodi Rowley, curator of Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Biology at the Australian Museum, because it is unusual for them to be this large. She added that she had never seen a frog that large before.
According the sources, Cameron is home to Shortland Island frogs, which can grow up to 13 inches long and weigh up to 7.2 pounds.
Owing to habitat loss as human settlements extend into their natural habitat, the population of these animals has been declining in recent years.
