IMPHAL: The Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday launched a tree plantation drive at Kangpokpi District as part of the observation of Balidas divas of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee.
The Chief Minister informed that several other plantation drives have been organized across the state.
Apart from this, Singh also took part in the Van Mahotsava celebrations in the district.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by State forest Minister Sh. Awangbow Newmai, MP(RS) Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, MLA Kipgen Nemcha and Vice President, BJP Manipur Nongthombam Nimbus.

Various competitions including slogan writing, drawing, essay writing have been organized in the state to mark the week-long celebration of Van Mahotsav across the state.
Students of the National Service Scheme of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram carried out door-to-door awareness programs in their respective villages. They enlightened the people on how to preserve the forest and segregate dry and wet garbage. The students also stress the importance of sanitization.
Van Mahotsav is a week-long celebration that is celebrated across the country during the first week of July. The aim of the observation is to raise awareness of tree plantation and forest conversation.
