GUWAHATI: The National Public School in Guwahati, Assam has been sealed by the district administration of Kamrup (Metro) for a week following the detection of COVID-19 among students amid a continuing surge of the virus across India. The order promulgated by the district administration will be applicable from April 19-25.

Issuing a notice in this regard, deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu said that the Circle Office of the Dispur revenue circle has been directed to seal the area immediately.

Pegu in his notice further alerted that any violation of the order will result in legal penalties under the provisions of the Assam COVID-19 Regulation 2020, the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 and other relevant laws of the nation.

In a similar development, Jatiya Vidyalaya in Guwahati has also been sealed after students tested positive for the virus.

Moreover, with the COVID-19 second wave continuing to surge Schools, colleges in many Northeastern states have been directed to closed for a period for the time being.

Assam recorded 639 fresh COVID-19 positive cases and six deaths as of yesterday.

Kamrup (M) recorded the highest 354 COVID-19 positive cases, followed by Kamrup with 35, Nagaon 28 and Dibrugarh 26 cases.

Currently, there are 5,268 active cases in the state. As many as 2,16,705 people have recovered from the infection so far with 159 discharged yesterday.
