GANGTOK: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Tuesday inaugurated the 1000 Litres Per Minute PSA Oxygen Plant at Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital in Sochyagang.
Earlier, the Himalayan state had installed 500 Lites Per Minute VSA Oxygen Plant at STNM Hospital as its early response to the second wave of COVID-19.
This development is anticipated to act as a major boost to the existing health infrastructure in the state utilized in combating the pandemic.

The Oxygen Plant has been allocated by the Government of India for STNM Hospital, Sochyagang under PMCARES.
With the launch, the plant now is fully functional and adequate to supply oxygen to the entire Hospital. The civil work for the installation of the Plant started on May 28 this year.
To ensure enough supply of oxygen to deal with any medical crisis, the Sikkim government is planning to install a 1000 LPM Bottling Plant at Rangpo with its own funds. Also, oxygen Plants are coming up at all the four District Hospitals.
The state health minister Dr. M.K. Sharma, Transport Minister, Sanjit Kharel, Additional CS Health K. Sreenivasulu, DG cum Secretary Health Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia, MS STNM Dr. K.B. Gurung, Doctors, and other concerned officials and dignitaries were also present during the inauguration.
