The state of Sikkim saw the first snowfall of the season on Tuesday morning, giving the tourists to the Himalayan state reason to cheer.
The snowfall in the state usually takes place in the month of January while it does not snow in the capital city Gangtok.

The first accumulating snowfall of the season occurred over portions of Lachen village in North Sikkim last evening.
As per the Pipon (Village Head) of Lachen Kuntub Lachenpa under Lachen Dzumsa, informed that parts of Gurdongmar and Thangu village also witnessed accumulating snowfall.
Due to the brief duration and relatively low intensity of the snow, accumulated in grassy areas only.

It is to be mentioned here that from the last 24 hours, Sikkim had very cold weather and relative cold temperature has gripped the entire state.
