SWAHID PIYALI STAGED AT JORHAT

Swahid Piyali drama will be staged at Sanmilan Auditorium Jorhat, today. Two prominent drama organisations of Assam Tarajan Natya Sanmilan and Jorhat Natya Sangha are going to jointly stage the play Swahid Piyali. It is based on the life and struggle of the 19th century martyr Piyali Baruah. Many veteran as well as upcoming actors will play key roles in the drama.The drama was written in the year 2005 by noted educationist, playwright and author Late Muktinath Sarma.

Directed by Diganta Baruah, the play will be dedicated to the memory of Late Lakshminath Sarma. It will be inaugurated by noted agricultural scientist Dr Tapan Dutta.The music in the play will be directed by well-known singer Jayanta Nath.

It may be noted that Piyali Baruah was hanged by the British along with Maniram Dewan on February 26, 1858, for trying to overthrow the British authorities and restore the Ahom kingdom.
