Tripura University Classes Suspended amid Controversy over Employees' Salariestripura

Agartala, January 23, 2020:

Universities across the country are witnessing a hard time when continuous protests against CAA being staged by students. Meanwhile, the classes in the Tripura University have come to a standstill due to a strike that has been called by the contractual employees.

Reportedly, the non-teaching staffs recruited through contracts were not being entitled to their deserved wages. Meanwhile, the University's Finance Committee and the Executive Council had already given their nod to increased pay structures. This was not being implemented by authorities and salaries were not being released.

Due to this, the irate staff members heckled the higher authorities. The agitated officials also locked up some of the higher officials late on Tuesday night, triggering tension. The classes have been called off since yesterday as none of the staff members have shown any interest to work.

Amid this, allegations are rife against the acting Vice-Chancellor. Speaking to us, one of the staffs said, “The UGC has written the university to form resolutions to pay increased salaries to the contractual employees. The executive council and the recently concluded Finance Committee have also given their nod to the increased salaries. But, the Vice-Chancellor is not showing any impetus to take a final call on the issue..this is wrong on so many levels..."

Some of the Tripura University officials also claimed that the register was also involved in this delay of the salary hike.
