Agartala, March 5, 2020:

Popular YouTube couple, Gaurav Taneja and Ritu Rathee Taneja, in a humanitarian move, held a unique fund-raising event at Heritage park in Agartala to help a local tea-seller get his daughter married. The couple sold tea alongside the tea-seller Shankar Deb, in lieu of some donation for the marriage. They also clicked selfies with the fans who attended the charitable event.

Tea seller Shankar Deb, a resident of Jogendra Nagar area, who sells tea in Maharaj Ganja Bazar sported a smile after long years of toil as a sigh of relief. According to him, he was very tensed and anxious about his daughter Priyanka’s marriage, and the help of the local entrepreneurs in raising funds has greatly eased his burden.

Priyanka had turned 18 last year, and the father was starting to despair as he lacked the funds to marry off his daughter, however, the YouTubers appeared on the scene as a godsent.

Speaking to Inside Northeast Shankar Deb said, “One of the fans of Taneja couple approached me to participate in this event. It has come to me as a blessing. This initiative will help me a lot in solemnizing the marriage of my daughter”.

In the event, Shankar prepared tea for the fans of the Taneja couple, and the fans were urged to donate money in return for a cup of tea. The lowest amount one could offer was pegged at Rs 20.

Tripura Tourism Department, which had invited the couple to visit Tripura, also helped the couple to organize the fund raising program.

Briefing the media Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Tourism Department Tripura Government said, “This is a wise initiative of the couple to support someone who is in need and we have extended support as much as possible. We will keep inviting YouTube vlog runners to come to Tripura..."

Gaurav Taneja, in the sidelines of the function, said, “This concept of helping poor families hit my mind long back. But, after observing the hospitality and warmth of Tripura, we decided to kickstart our initiative in this state...”

His wife Ritu also echoed the same message and said this initiative had been undertaken to promote women empowerment and gender issues in view of the ensuing Women’s Day.

Notably, both Gaurav and Ritu run two YouTube channels -- Flying Beast and Fit muscle TV -- with around 3.5 million subscribers.
