Assam minister claims AIUDF and Congress's fight for Dhubri seat not for people but for Agar business

Assam Minister Atul Bora, also the president of Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), strongly criticized both the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and the Congress party on April 30, asserting that the ongoing battle in Dhubri is not centered around the welfare of the people but rather revolves around the Agar business interests.

Bora expressed his disappointment, stating that the populace is losing faith in both parties, and their influence is expected to diminish further following the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections.

Bora made these remarks during a media interaction following the conclusion of an election rally for Javed Islam, the AGP candidate backed by the NDA, representing the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency. Addressing the aspirations of the people in Dhubri, Bora emphasized their desire for a Dhubri free from the influence of AIUDF leader Ajmal and the Congress party. He dismissed the efficacy of traditional healing practices and insinuated that the current contest is primarily about competing Agar businesses in the region.

Regarding political allegiances, Bora highlighted that this time, the Chief Minister will support the AGP, noting that a portion of the Chief Minister's Jalukbari constituency has been incorporated into the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency following recent constituency reassignment.

Bora also downplayed the impact of Priyanka Gandhi's upcoming campaign in the Dhubri constituency, asserting that it will not sway their stance. He referenced Rahul Gandhi's nationwide rally, 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' and questioned its electoral impact in the last five state elections, emphasizing the lack of unity within the Congress party-led opposition.

Anticipating a competitive electoral contest, Bora acknowledged that the Dhubri constituency will witness a three-cornered battle this time. He expressed his personal preference for Sukur Ali's victory, indicating his support for the candidate.
