Meghalaya: CM Conrad involved in multi-crore land scam, claims TMC leader Mukul Sangma

Training guns on Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma led National People’s Party (NPP) government, Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma on February 21, slammed the party of carrying out widespread corruption and duping the people of the state worth crores.

“The government has embarked upon this modus operandi, to have a middle man, purchase the land, sale the land to the innocent people at an inflated rate and make the payment from the inflated price to the middle men, said Mukul Sangma while further adding, “The modus operandi of this government is to wrought the state, to satisfy their swelling greed at the cost of the state”.

Continuing with the lambast against the NPP government’s alleged land buying rate and engaging middle men for the same, Mukul Sangma highlighted the cabinet’s decision of fixing land rate at Rs 85 per square feet for a total of 807 acres of land.

“Now you cannot allegedly hold one department accountable. All these decisions have been taken by the cabinet. Now you must be aware of ministers as per the executive powers, and their respective portfolios allocated to the respective ministers. So the minister of Urban Affairs has violated the proposal and got the land rate fixing issue approved by the cabinet and all cabinet items are approved by the chief minister. So therefore, the three persons, the chief minister, the revenue minister and the urban affairs minister have entered into a criminal conspiracy, if we go by all inputs that are now available in the public domain”, alleged Mukul Sangma.

Sangma further claimed that the trinity have rocked the state with widespread corruption, duped the innocent people worth crores. “The government has looted the people of the state. If we go by the difference then the government has looted worth Rs 140 crore from the innocent people. Now if the government wanted, they could have given the money to the innocent landowners who nurtured, preserved and took care of the land”.

“The Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is present in the Garo Hills for the election campaign said in one of his speech that Meghalaya is the most corrupt state in India. The government has failed the name of the state and its people. Meghalaya was never a corrupt state. But looking at the list of scams, it is really shocking,” quipped Sangma.
Mukul Sangma urged the people to think before voting as the state has been already tainted by the numerous scams under the present government which has also cost loss of huge money of the ex-chequer.
