Mokokchung, November 21, 2019:

19-year-old Naga beauty Akumla Imsong, a second semester student of Fazl Ali College Mokokchung, was on Tuesday crowned Miss Mokokchung, at the grand finale of Miss Mokokchung beauty pageant.

Arpana Lama and Imnanaro Pongen emerged as 1st and 2nd runner-up at the contest, respectively.

The Minister for Higher Education and Technical Education and Tribal Affairs of Nagaland, Temjen Imna Along, gracing the function as a special guest, urged upon the youths to be consistent and persistent in all their works.

Altogether, 13 contestants had competed for the prestigious title. Imsong's win comes at a time when Naga beauty pageant contestants have been making waves on a national scale.

Recently, Naga beauty Jessica Snock Akoijam has brought laurels to her State by winning the prestigious ‘Mrs United Nations 2019’ beauty pageant. Jessica is also the first Naga woman to represent India at the ‘Mrs. United Nations World 2019’.

Jessica Akoijam was selected for the beauty contest after she had bagged the first runners-up title in the recently held Miss India Earth 2019 beauty pageant held at Delhi. By doing so, she had become the first Naga woman to win the position. She also won the ‘Miss Popular’ and the ‘Face of Northeast’ titles in the said contest.

In another noteworthy incident, another Naga beauty queen Vikuono Sachu, the second runner-up of Nagaland’s Miss Kohima Contest that was held recently, created ripples nationwide due to her answer during the QnA session, wherein she had stated that the Prime Minister’s focus should be on women empowerment instead of cows.
