'PM Narendra Modi' actor Vivek Oberoi shredded for sharing 'offensive' meme, apologizes

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has once again stoked the fires of controversy. This time, the 'PM Narendra Modi' actor has made the headlines for the wrong reasons by sharing an 'offensive' post on Twitter, after which the actor was strongly condemned.

Vivek shared a meme along with the caption: "Haha! creative! No politics here....just life." The 'meme' in question is related to Vivek's ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai, who is currently married to Abhishek Bachchan. The meme compares Aishwarya's three high-profile relationships with the polls.

The first picture at the top shows Aishwarya with former beau Salman Khan, with the words "opinion poll". The second picture in the meme shows Aishwarya with Vivek along with the words "exit poll". The third and final picture shows Aishwarya with hubby Abhishek Bachchan along with the words "result".

Many, including actress Sonam Kapoor, were quick to jump on Vivek's throat after the meme went viral. The actress called his meme "disgusting and disrespectful". Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar also came forward seeking an apology from the actor.

Apart from this, Vivek Oberoi was also shredded and trolled on Twitter for sharing the meme and was also served notices from the National Commission and the Maharashtra State Commission for Women.

Although Vivek was defiant at first and claimed Sonam was "overreacting", he has since sought an apology and took to Twitter to apologize to the masses after deleting the controversial meme.

In his apology posted on Twitter, Vivek said that "sometimes what appears to be funny and harmless at first glance to one, may not be so to others." Vivek further added that he has spent the last 10 years "empowering" more than 2000 underprivileged girls and said that he cant even think of being disrespectful to any woman ever.

He further apologized to every woman offended by the post. He wrote: "Even if one woman is offended by my reply to the meme, it calls for remedial action. Apologies, tweet deleted."

Vivek has conveniently landed in the headlines just ahead of the release of his upcoming movie, 'PM Narendra Modi' (which releases on May 24) and it is often said that there is no such thing called "bad publicity".
