An Alaska Airlines-operated Boeing Co. 737 Max jet made an emergency landing at Portland International Airport after part of the plane's fuselage and a window blew out post-take-off.
Images and videos posted on social messaging site X revealed a missing window and what seemed to be an emergency exit from the jet.
Alaska Airlines confirmed that flight 1282 was ferrying 171 passengers and six crew members from Portland to Ontario, California. Both Alaska Airlines and Boeing Airplanes have stated they are in touch with the passengers. According to the airline, flight AS1282 from Portland to Ontario experienced an incident shortly after takeoff and safely landed back at Portland International Airport.
They are currently investigating the incident. Alaska Airlines and Boeing have acknowledged the incident, with Boeing announcing that its technical team is prepared to support the investigation.
FlightRadar24 reported that the aircraft was airborne for approximately 20 minutes and reached a peak altitude of 16,300 feet. The aircraft involved was a brand-new Boeing 737 Max 9 delivered to Alaska Airlines in October. This incident occurs as Boeing is attempting to restore trust in the 737 Max, a vital revenue source.
