Major unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, clashes breaks out between protesters, authorities

In Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's (PoK) capital, Muzaffarabad, significant unrest has erupted as clashes broke out between demonstrators and government forces. The turmoil unfolds against the backdrop of a prolonged wheel-jam strike that has persisted for four consecutive days throughout PoK.

The catalyst for this wave of protests was the call to action issued by the Awami Action Committee, demanding tax-free electricity sourced from the Mangla Dam and subsidies on wheat flour. Tensions escalated following overnight police raids, resulting in the apprehension of numerous political leaders and activists sympathetic to the cause. 

Consequently, clashes between law enforcement agencies and protesters have erupted not only in Muzaffarabad but also in Dadyal, Mirpur, and various other regions within PoK. The unrest underscores deep-seated grievances and frustrations within the population, amplified by the perceived heavy-handed tactics employed by authorities. 

The situation in PoK remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation as both sides stand firm in their respective positions. The ongoing strikes and protests signify a significant challenge to the region's stability and pose broader implications for the geopolitical landscape of the area.
