The Jiribam district authorities imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in the whole of the district from Friday morning following the apprehension of serious breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquillity and grave danger to human lives and properties.
In an order, District Magistrate (DM), Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, prohibited the assembly of five or more persons and the movement of people carrying sticks, stones, firearms and weapons of any other descriptions or objects which can be used as offensive weapons.
The DM said the order would not apply to the agencies of the government involved in the enforcement of law and order and maintenance of essential services.
“Persons desirous of taking out rallies or processions of socio-political, customary, religious or entertainment objectives, involving the assembly of five or more persons within the area described in the schedule shall apply to the undersigned for permission by way of relaxation from the operations of this order and they shall not take out processions or rallies or cause such assembly or persons until permission is obtained by them,” the DM said in the order.
