Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has attributed the ongoing crisis in Manipur to the Congress party, accusing them of compromising the state's integrity for political gain.
Speaking on the Congress party's recent protests against the central government over the Manipur issue, the Chief Minister stated, "Congress party is responsible for what is happening in Manipur... They made so many compromises with others to break Manipur."
The Congress party has been vocal in its criticism of the government, holding protests nationwide to draw attention to the turmoil in the state.
However, CM Biren Singh countered their accusations by highlighting the Congress's alleged historical missteps that, according to him, laid the foundation for the current unrest.
The Chief Minister also shed light on the state's ongoing battle against illegal poppy cultivation, particularly in the hill districts. Acknowledging the efforts of security forces and local departments, he said, "I thank the Assam Rifles officials who, jointly with the BSF, have destroyed around 100 acres of poppy plantation in these trying times. I really appreciate the police department, forest department, along with the Central Paramilitary force – the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and the BSF."
The poppy eradication drive is part of Manipur’s ongoing War on Drugs mission, aimed at combating illegal drug production and trade in the region. The state government has intensified efforts to tackle poppy cultivation, which poses environmental and social challenges.
The Chief Minister's remarks reflect his administration's dual focus on addressing both the socio-political and security challenges faced by the state. As tensions persist, the government remains committed to tackling these issues with coordinated action and support from central and state forces.
