Gun attack continues in Manipur, around 15 injured, two critical

Despite the union Home minister in his recent visit to Manipur warning Kuki militants not to violate the ground rule of Suspension of Operation (SoO), the fresh incident of alleged Kuki militants firing towards civilians was reported in various periphery of Manipur.

On June 2, a day after Home Minister Amit Shah had left Manipur, a gun attack by suspected Kuki militants occurred at Kangchup Foothill under Imphal West district. 

In the untoward incident, as many as 15 people were injured and two of them are in critical condition. All of them were admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

One of the villagers told to media that a large number of heavily armed Kuki militants allegedly come to the village and tried to burn down the houses of civilians located at the Abulok Area of Kangchup Foothill. While villagers tried to stop them, the armed militants fired towards civilians. The incident occurred at around 2.20 pm. 

MLA of Sekmai Constituency, Heikham Dingo told to media one of the injured people said that the unrest occurred in Phayeng and Kanchup foothill of Imphal West district after some suspected Kuki militants come down to attack the civilian. 

"It is very unfortunate that many civilians belonging to various places had sustained injuries in the gun firing incidents. I would like to extend my appeal to stop these violent activities, arson," he appealed.
