Kuki organisations condemn arson attacks on villages in Manipur's Kamjong district

Multiple Kuki organisations have issued a strong condemnation following attacks on two villages in Manipur's Kamjong district on Thursday morning. The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), along with Kuki Students' Organisation, Kuki Women's Union, Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights, and the Kuki Chiefs' Association Manipur, jointly denounced the violence that saw Gampal and Haijang villages set ablaze.

The villages were reportedly burned around 8:00 am by unidentified miscreants in the Sahamphung Sub-Division, leaving numerous families displaced.

"This is yet another horrifying chapter in the systematic targeting of the Kuki-Zo people," the organisations stated in their collective release. "The attackers destroyed homes, displaced families, and deepened the wounds of a community already burdened by ethnic violence."

The Kuki bodies criticised the central government's response to the situation and presented three demands to the authorities:

  • Immediate rebuilding and compensation for the destroyed villages
  • Deployment of neutral security forces to ensure protection
  • Emergency humanitarian aid for those affected by the violence

"The Kuki-Zo people are not asking for favours — we are demanding our constitutional rights to safety, dignity, and justice," the organisations emphasised.
