Manipur: Armed miscreants ambush security forces in Moreh, one CDO personnel killed

The situation in Moreh town in Manipur continues to be tense with fresh exchanges of fire reported between the security forces and armed miscreants.

Armed miscreants reportedly attacked IRB personnel while sleeping near Ema Kondong Lairembi Devi Mandir following which one CDO personal died and another injured. 

According to sources, today in the early morning at around 4 am when armed miscreants ambushed Security Forces who are near Ema Kondong Lairembi Devi Mandir with rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and numerous live rounds from the hilltop of Chikim Village. 

At around 2:24 PM, January 17, Manipur police on its official X handle confirmed the same and wrote, "Today (17.01.2024) at early morning, armed militants orchestrated a violent attack on the State forces, employing firearms and explosives in Moreh, Tengnoupal district. In the incident, one personnel of 6th Manipur Rifles namely Wangkhem Somorjit Meetei S/o (L) W. Chaoton Singh of Malom Tulihal Mayai Leikai (R/No.- 0620211015) was martyred in the line of duty, while 03 (three) police personnel sustained injuries. Security forces are presently engaging the inimical elements."

However, Assam Rifles who were just 20 meters from the IRB Post, covered the IRB post by using their Bullet Proof Vehicles and protecting the IRB personnel by retaliation. 

After the first ambush at Ema Kondong Lairembi IRB Post, the armed miscreants again ambushed security forces deployed at SBI Bank Building Dekhunai Resort at around 5:10 where the Superintendent of Special Commando were taking Shelter by using Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) from Moreh Ward No. 7 Canan Veng.

During the ambush, one personnel of IRB got injured. He has been taken to the Medical Room of Assam Rifles at KLP for treatment. 

Heavy Cross firing is going on at the Indo-Myanmar Border Town Moreh between armed miscreants and a combined team of security forces comprising Assam Rifles, Gorkha Regiment, BSF, Special Commando, Moreh Commando, 5th and 6th IRB and 8 Manipur Rifles (MR).

It may be mentioned that on January 16 Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal and Chandel warmed the State Government, District Administration and Superintendent of Police Tengnoupal to release Philips K. Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate within 24 hours under any conditions, if not they will conduct serious repercussions and the responsibility will be for the Government, District Administration and Superintendent of Tengnoupal.
