Manipur: Candle light vigil observed to mark eight months of crisis

Marking the completion of eight months of the ongoing crisis in Manipur, a candle light vigil was observed in front of the Kangla Gate honouring people who had lost their lives during the crisis.

The observance ceremony was organised by FAMBEI, a representative body of the Meitei community this evening.

Addressing the media, member of FAMBEI, Ashem Nirmala expressed her deep concern about The Government of India not showing any interest to resettle the crisis. She condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his stoic silence despite the fact that violence has already completed eight months.

“Modi's interest is only the geographical location and soil of Manipur and not people of the state. As such, to become anti-government is not the fault of our people. It is the fault of both the state and central governments,” she said.

She also cited Union Home Minister Amit Shah not returning to the state as lack of interest about the Manipur crisis.

“Home minister visited the state just once after crisis unfolded. But after that he didn’t come back again. This also prove that government of India is not interested in Manipur crisis,” she added and stated that people of the state really want to bring back peace in the state of Manipur.

She also stated that Kuldeip Singh is not fit to be the chairman of the Unified Command. He should be replace by Chief Minister of Manipur, she demanded.
