Manipur CM N Biren Singh inspects rehabilitation centre sites, seeks blessings from Ima Meira Paibis

Amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited Kwakta in Bishnupur District on June 23 to assess the areas earmarked for the construction of new rehabilitation centres for displaced persons from Churachandpur. During his visit, Chief Minister Singh also took the opportunity to engage with the Ima Meira Paibis at Moirang and Ningthou Khong, seeking their blessings.

Meanwhile, the region continues to face challenges as unprovoked firing incidents persist. On June 21, an IED blast was reported south of Kwakta on a bridge near Ward No. 9. The blast occurred around 7.15 p.m. in a vehicle suspected to be a Mahindra Scorpio. The incident resulted in the loss of two lives, with four others sustaining injuries. However, official confirmation regarding the casualties is still awaited. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the driver of the Scorpio vehicle leaving the scene after parking it over a culvert.

In a separate incident, gunshots from automatic small arms were heard near Urangpat, north of YKPI, in Imphal East around 5.45 p.m. on the same day. The situation was swiftly brought under control, and sources indicate that calm has been restored.

Amid these challenging circumstances, the Meira Paibis have been actively involved in blocking the Sawonbung-YKPI road axis at multiple locations across Imphal West, showcasing their determination to bring attention to the ongoing crisis.

Another incident on June 21, at approximately 5 p.m., involved firing directed towards N Boljang Village, located south of Kanchup in Imphal West. Assam Rifle troops retaliated promptly, successfully bringing the situation under control.
