Manipur: COCOMI rejects government’s resolution, demands review within 24 hours

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has rejected the resolutions made by the state government in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. COCOMI issued a 24-hour ultimatum for a review of the resolutions, warning of escalated protests if their demands remain unmet.

Speaking to the media late at night after a meeting involving NDA-supported MLAs, COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba voiced strong disapproval of the government’s stance. Athouba reiterated that COCOMI had previously called for a comprehensive military crackdown on all Kuki militant groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, holding them accountable for the ongoing violence that began on May 3 last year.

Athouba criticized the government's decision to conduct operations solely targeting those responsible for the recent killing of six innocent women and children in Jiribam, calling it an insufficient measure. He deemed the move to label only these militants as an "unlawful organization" inadequate, urging that all Kuki groups under the SoO pact be similarly designated.

He emphasized that the public's demands have been clearly communicated to the government, stating, "There is no need for further consultations. The government should focus on meeting these demands instead of seeking additional input."
