Manipur increases security with 90 additional companies amid ongoing crisis

In an effort to bolster security across Manipur, authorities have announced the deployment of 90 additional companies of security forces, supplementing the earlier presence of 198 companies in the state.

A significant portion of these reinforcements has already reached Imphal and is being strategically deployed to safeguard citizens, vulnerable areas, and critical infrastructure.

The decision was made during a high-level security review meeting held today, attended by representatives from the Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, local police, and DGP.

The meeting assessed the security situation in Imphal and all districts, identifying key areas of concern and developing a robust strategy for addressing them.

With the arrival of additional companies, security forces are being redistributed to cover high-risk zones and sensitive points across the state.

Plans are underway to ensure full coverage within a few days, focusing on protecting lives and property. District Coordination Cells and Joint Control Rooms will be established in each district for streamlined communication and rapid response to incidents.

Existing control mechanisms and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for highway security, fringe area protection, and force deployment were reviewed and upgraded. Authorities are monitoring national highways to ensure smooth functioning and safeguarding fringe areas that are prone to disturbances.

The peaceful burial of nine deceased individuals in Jiribam, facilitated by coordinated efforts from all forces, was cited as an example of the effective measures being taken. Speaking at the briefing, officials assured citizens that every effort is being made to address challenges swiftly.

“We are all together in tackling this issue. Whatever problems arise, we immediately respond via the control room. The combined efforts of the police, administration, Army, Assam Rifles, and other forces ensure the safety of the people,” said security advisor Kuldeip Singh.

Responding to a media query he said that, altogether 258 people died during this conflict. Operation is still ongoing and so far 3000 weapons have been recovered, he added.

Authorities aim to finalize deployments across the state within a few days and have called for public cooperation in maintaining peace. The reinforced presence of security forces is expected to restore confidence among residents and deter any untoward incidents.

Manipur’s administration continues to work tirelessly, with the combined efforts of multiple agencies, to ensure the safety and stability of the region amidst ongoing challenges.
