Manipur: Kuki militants taking active role in targeting civilians and security forces, says security advisor Kuldiep Singh

In a press briefing at the CM Secretariat, Manipur's Security Advisor, Kuldiep Singh, expressed serious concerns over the increasingly active role of Kuki militants in targeting innocent civilians and security forces across the state.

Singh revealed that a recent incident occurred in the Bishnupur area, where Kuki militants attacked three workers near Naga village, leaving them seriously injured. Despite heightened activities, security forces are on high alert and efforts are underway to tackle the situation.

The security advisor disclosed details of a significant incident in Moreh on January 17, where a large number of Kuki militants attacked commando posts at three locations: Rich Hotel, GM Hotel and SBI. The forces, including Assam Rifles, SDOs, CDOs and BSF were prepared for the assault. However, the attack resulted in casualties, including the death of Commando Wangkhem Somorjit Meetei and the martyrdom of 10 IRB personnel Takhellambam Shaileshwore.

Singh outlined the coordinated efforts of the security forces, including the joint operations and reinforcements sent to Moreh. He said that the clashes in Moreh led to casualties, injuries and attempts to loot armories in neighboring areas like Khangabok and Thoubal.

As a response to the escalating violence, Singh stated the deployment of additional forces, including two companies of BSF, two columns of the army and helicopters for aerial support. The IG Mr. Kabir has been dispatched to supervise operations and establish a joint command center for comprehensive domination of the affected areas.

In Khangabok , miscreants attempted to storm the third IRB, resulting in an exchange of fire with BSF jawans. Singh informed that similar incidents occurred in Sagolband where Kuki militants fired towards civilians, causing injuries.

Singh said the security forces are actively engaged in combing operations to address the heightened activities in and around the hills and Moreh. He said that the government is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of civilians and security personnel, hoping to bring the situation under control within the next few days.
