Manipur: Meira Paibis hold torch rally demanding resolution to Manipur conflict

In a powerful display of public frustration over the government's inaction to resolve the ongoing conflict in Manipur, a torch rally was organized today, September 9 by the Meira Paibis of Thangmeiband and neighboring areas. The protest marks yet another call for peace as the state continues to grapple with the crisis that has persisted for more than 16 months.

Unlike the previous day’s rally, which was marked by heightened tension, today’s protest was notably peaceful. Protesters gathered at THAU Ground and marched for approximately 10 kilometers, intentionally avoiding sensitive areas such as the Raj Bhawan and the Chief Minister's residence.

Chants and slogans filled the air as the demonstrators voiced their demands, calling for the unity of Manipur and urging the government to restore peace. Key slogans included, “Don’t disintegrate Manipur,” “We want peace,” and “Long live Manipur.” Protesters also called for the release of village volunteers, the removal of the Director General of Police and the security adviser, and for the transfer of the unified command to the state government. They further opposed combing operations in the valley districts, adding to the list of grievances aimed at the authorities.
