Manipur MLA urges Governor to expedite search for missing youth

Keishamthong MLA Sapam Nishikanta has sought the intervention of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in the case of a missing youth, urging swift action to locate him. Luwangthem Mukesh, a 20-year-old resident of Keishampat Leimaiam Leikai, Imphal West, has been missing since March 16.

Following a meeting with the governor at Raj Bhavan on Thursday evening, Nishikanta addressed the media, emphasising the urgency of the case. Expressing deep concern over the youth’s disappearance, he underlined the distress Mukesh’s family is enduring and called for immediate steps to trace him.

“The governor responded positively during our discussion. Given his vast experience in handling the home department, I am confident he will make every effort to ensure Mukesh is found,” Nishikanta stated.

During the meeting, the MLA submitted a memorandum detailing Mukesh’s disappearance. According to an FIR, Mukesh left his home around 2:00 pm on March 16 in a red Maruti Alto 800 (registration number MNO5J-0018) and has not been seen since. His family, particularly his mother, Luwangthem Omila Devi, is in a state of distress, with the local community rallying behind them.

The memorandum urged Manipur Police and other relevant authorities to accelerate the investigation, deploy necessary resources, enhance coordination between agencies and the community, and leverage technology to locate Mukesh. It also sought support for his family during this challenging period.

“The community stands ready to cooperate fully in this urgent matter, and we are hopeful that Governor intervention will ensure Luwangthem Mukesh's safe return,” the memorandum stated.
