The Kangpokpi Christian Hospital (KCH), one of Manipur's oldest healthcare institutions, and a pioneer in the North East region, is experiencing a remarkable revival amidst the ongoing turmoil in the state.
Established in 1920 by the dedicated efforts of Dr. G.G. Crozier and his spouse, KCH was renowned for its exceptional medical services until the 1990s. Patients from across Manipur and the entire North East sought treatment here.
Over the years, with the emergence of newer hospitals and medical facilities in the region, KCH faced a decline, grappling with outdated infrastructure and limited resources.
However, the wave of violence that has swept through Manipur since May 3 has inadvertently breathed new life into the hospital. KCH is now witnessing a resurgence, reminiscent of its glory days, with over 200 outpatients visiting daily and 50 to 60 inpatients receiving care.
Recognizing the pressing medical needs arising from inadequate healthcare facilities and a shortage of inpatient accommodations, the Kuki Students' Organization-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) took a proactive step by constructing the first floor of the hospital. This addition will help accommodate more inpatients.
Mimin Haokip, from the KSO-GHQ's Information and Publicity division, shared that construction work on the first floor began on June 14 and was successfully completed on September 20. The newly constructed floor was inaugurated and handed over to the hospital's authorities today.
This commendable endeavor was made possible through collaboration with the International Love Ministry, under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Holkhosei Touthang and Chingboi Touthang.
The inauguration and dedication ceremony was attended by prominent leaders from various communities and civil society organizations. Rev. V. Sitlhou, Chairman of the Administration Committee at Kangpokpi Christian Hospital, presided over the event.
The hospital also introduced a new canteen for inpatient parties, constructed by KSO-GHQ in partnership with the International Love Ministry.
KSO-GHQ envisions that these developments will enhance the hospital's capacity to meet the healthcare needs of the local community. They call upon all compassionate individuals and organizations to join hands in further upgrading the hospital's infrastructure and equipment, aligning with its noble mission to serve humanity.
Paominthang Hmar, Chief Administrative Officer at KCH, expressed deep gratitude to KSO-GHQ and all contributors, emphasizing that the hospital's founders, Dr. and Mrs. Crozier, would be immensely pleased to witness the revival of their dream. He urged like-minded individuals to come forward and contribute to the betterment of this non-profit, charitable, and self-supported hospital dedicated to serving humanity.
