Manipur police crushes poppy farms, boosts anti-drug drive

The Superintendent of Police in Tamenglong, along with personnel from the Tamei Police, have successfully destroyed poppy cultivation in the Kadi-IV and Kwilong areas. 

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal poppy plantations in the region.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh took to his X handle to express his appreciation for the efforts made by the police. 

He stated, "Appreciate your efforts in eradicating the illegal plantations of poppy and drugs businesses from our Manipur state. We will not rest until these poppy plantations and the drug menace are completely eradicated from Manipur."

The government has been actively working towards eliminating drug-related issues in the state, focusing on destroying illegal plantations and curbing the drug trade.

These actions are expected to contribute significantly to reducing the influence of drugs in Manipur.

Earlier in the month of September, Biren Singh said that drugs worth Rs 60,000 crore had been seized, and 18,000 hectares of poppy cultivation had been destroyed in Manipur amid an ongoing crisis, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced.

The operation was part of the state's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal poppy cultivation.

Earlier today, Biren Singh attended the Golden Jubilee Celebration of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) held at Loktak Hall, Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated that due to the unprecedented crisis in the State people have lost their lives and many have been moved to relief camps for shelter.
