Manipur police seek community aid after armed miscreants allegedly attack vehicles

Manipur police are calling for community assistance as protests in the Kakwa area turn violent, with "automatic rifles" reportedly used against police vehicles. They have appealed for local organisations and leaders to come forward and assist in restoring normalcy to the region.

Senior police officials held a press conference today to address the escalating tensions following a police action that resulted in the death of an unborn child.

SP Ksh Shivakanta of Imphal West described a worrying shift in protester tactics. "Automatic burst rounds have been fired at my bulletproof vehicle," he stated. “Earlier, the vehicles have been targeted with slings and stones. But now they have been fired upon, and my vehicle also got hit.”

The police highlighted the positive role of community elders in de-escalating tensions in Singjamei Waikhom Leikai. Their intervention persuaded young protesters to disperse, helping restore calm.

Authorities are urging civil society organisations and the public to refrain from violent demonstrations. The police department is actively seeking support from local organisations to help bring the situation under control through dialogue and cooperation.
