Manipur: Tribal body condemns IAS officer's transfer to Imphal, demands cancellation of order

A tribal body from the districts of Pherzawl and Jiribam in Manipur has expressed its condemnation of the transfer of an IAS officer.

The group has demanded that the order be cancelled, indicating their dissatisfaction with the decision.

The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC), representing the tribal people from the Pherzawl and Jiribam Districts expressed their vehement opposition to the transfer of Lalramsang Infimate, a member of the Kuki-ZomiHmar Mizo community to Imphal.

In a press statement, the ITAC stated, "On this 25th day of October 2023, we stand united in our cause to protect our tribal brethren and assert our genuine demands to the government."

Earlier on October 17, ITAC issued a press statement condemning the transfer of order No. MISCDP-1/20/2023-DP-DP of Lalramsang Infimate, IAS, to Imphal. The "Valley of Death" has seen the tragic loss of many tribal lives and our concern is rooted in the safety and well-being of the indigenous community members.

"We, therefore, urge the government of Manipur to reconsider the said order and take into account the security and safety concerns of the indigenous hill tribes of Pherzawl and Jiribam Districts. We demand that the government protects the lives of our officers the same way they prioritized the safety and well-being of the Meiteis," the release added.

The ITAC further, demanded that the government listen to the collective voice of the indigenous communities and act promptly to address our security concerns.

"Failure to address these issues will only deepen the divide and perpetuate the injustice that our people have suffered for far too long," mentions the release.
