Manipur violence: CBI investigates missing student deaths, CM promises full cooperation

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has commenced its investigation into the deaths of two youths in Manipur. Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed the Manipur government's full cooperation and support for the CBI's inquiry during their visit to Imphal.

The CBI team visited the spot. However, specific details of their findings remain undisclosed at this stage.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the incidet stating that both the central and state governments are treating the case with the utmost seriousness. He revealed that Home Minister Amit Shah had personally called him, assuring that the CBI would investigate the case thoroughly.

"The Home Minister also promised that definitely this case has to be dealt with very seriously and those culprits should be put to justice and no one should be spared," Biren Singh stated.

On September 26, the incident that sparked these events unfolded, with 40 students injured in Manipur's Imphal Valley. The police had resorted to tear gas and baton charges while attempting to control a protest sparked by the deaths of two youths who had gone missing in July. The protesters clashed with the police as they sought to advance towards the chief minister's secretariat. The injured students received medical attention at various hospitals.
