A premier tribal organisation, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), has handed over a memorandum to Home Minister Amit Shah, calling for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged atrocities on the Kuki-Zo community.
The body also staged a large-scale rally to press for their demand.
Tens of thousands of protesters from every corner of the district marched from three locations - Kawnpui Public Ground, Muolvaiphei Public Ground and Pearsomun Public Ground - to Tuibuong Peace Ground near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, shouting slogans against the state government and demanding investigating agencies to probe cases of atrocities against tribals by the Meitei community.

Meanwhile, the ITLF in a memorandum addressed to Home Minister Amit Shah also alleged partisan attitude on the part of the Manipur State Government in tackling the ongoing ethnic strife between the Majority Meetei/Meitei Community and the Tribal Kuki-Zo peoples within the state of Manipur.
Further, the tribal body also prompted for recommendation to the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe/investigate the several complaints lodged against the atrocities, carnage, murder, and atrocious rape dispensed upon the Kuki-Zo community allegedly by the Meetei/Meitei Community bolstered upon by the Manipur State Government.
The memorandum states, "With reference to the above-stated subject matter, We, the undersigned, have the honour to present the following statement of facts for your kind perusal and consideration, praying to retrospect the partisan attitude on the part of Manipur State Government in handling the current ethnic tension prevailing within the state of Manipur, and investigate various atrocities, murder, bludgeoning of the tribal peoples in Manipur."
Further, the ITLF urged Amit Shah to intervene in CBI to probe into/investigate the matter and appeal to unequivocally delve into the plight and woes of the Kuki-Zo tribal populace correspondingly.
