Manipur violence: Video of tribal man's body being burnt surfaces online

In a shocking incident in Manipur, a video of an alleged tribal man's body being burnt has surfaced online. According to sources, the identification of the deceased has not been done yet. However, Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh stated that they are trying to verify the authenticity of the video, even though the video looks like 4 months old.

According to reports his bones and remains were collected and buried.

Meanwhile, The government has made no confirmation on the incident, although Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has denied the claims made by tribal groups.

On the other hand, a Kuki-Zo representative said they were attempting to determine the identity of the victim since five or six persons from the community were alleged to have been burnt alive during the violence.

Earlier on October 6, The United Nations Human Rights raised concerns over the vandalisation of activist Babloo Loitongbam's residence in Manipur. What is more is that the UN Human Rights has squarely blamed local outfits Meitei Leepun and Arambai Tengol behind the incident.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the UN Human Rights stated: "We are alarmed by threats to human rights defender Babloo Loitongbam by Meitei Leepun & Arambai Tengol groups in Manipur for speaking out on inter-communal violence since May.  We urge authorities to protect him, his family & home, & hold perpetrators accountable."

This reaction comes in after unknown miscreants allegedly stormed the residence of Human Rights Alert director Babloo Loitongbam, located at Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai under Imphal West district on October 5 and vandalised a number of household properties.

According to reliable sources, around 30-40 unidentified people came to his residence at around 6.30 pm. This group of unidentified people allegedly vandalised properties which include a car, chairs, and window panes.

A team of Lamphel Police Station and Imphal West district Police personnel soon to the spot and took up necessary security measures.
