The indigenous Manipuri Muslims, also known as Meitei Pangals, came together on May 12 to hold mass prayers across the state of Manipur. The prayers were held to restore peace and prosperity in the state, which has been marred by communal tensions since May 3.
President of the All Manipur Muslim Organisations Coordinating Committee (AMMOCC), SM Jalal, spoke to the media and expressed his concern over the recent violence, which has led to loss of life and property damage.
He highlighted that all Muslim organizations in the state, including religious, women, and student organizations, have come together to start a new peace initiative and provide humanitarian assistance to those in need.
Jalal emphasized that the community's goal is to help all affected persons regardless of their communities.
Meitei Pangals are extending their support in evacuation and rescue efforts by opening temporary relief camps in various places across Manipur. They are providing essential commodities to affected areas from their own localities.
