Suspected militants burnt houses, police outposts and forest beats in Manipur's Jiribam district on the midnight of June 7. In response to the escalating situation, additional state forces were swiftly airlifted from Imphal to Jiribam on Saturday morning, police said.
According to sources, armed militants targeted key establishments, including the Jirimuk Police Outpost, Jiri Mukh Forest Beat, and Chotobekra Police Check Post. Additionally, several houses in the areas of Lamtaikhunou, Loukoipung, Narayanpur, and Bungtangkhal fell victim to the arson.
The incident occurred during the late hours and extended into the early morning, affecting the residents in the area.
One displaced individual strongly condemned the outbreak of violence in what was once considered a peaceful district. Forced to flee their homes in search of safety, residents emphasised the urgent need to strengthen security forces in vulnerable areas.
