Naga legislators appeal for peace in Manipur amidst communal tension

Six Naga legislators of the Manipur Legislative Assembly have appealed to the public to immediately stop the communal violence that has engulfed the state, promising to extend all possible assistance in restoring normalcy. Water Resource Minister Awangbow Newmai addressed the media on behalf of the legislators, expressing deep concerns over the ongoing turmoil in Manipur.

Newmai highlighted that the incidents of violence would hinder the state government's efforts to include Manipur in the global race of development. He emphasized that the Naga legislators are making an appeal to all concerned parties to come together and sort out the issues across the table, adding that there are no problems that cannot be solved through discussion.

"If we sit together and discuss, we can sort out all problems," said Newmai. "Whatever loss is happening due to the violence, it is a loss for everyone. There is no winner in this kind of activity and violence. Everyone is a loser when we destroy property, be it government or public. Therefore, we would like to appeal to all the stakeholders, all the publics, all the communities to come together and sort out whatever problems are happening in the state."

Newmai reassured the public that there had been no security lapses in the violence-hit areas, but it became uncontrollable due to the rumors that were spread everywhere, and everyone started participating in the violence. He stated that the government took precautionary measures, but the violence happened so suddenly that it could not be controlled. He promised that the government would come out with a clear picture of how and why the violence happened.

"As of now, as Naga legislators, we would like to only say that we would like to appeal to all communities to come together and let us live peacefully," said Newmai. When asked if people are happy with the government, he said that the government has been working for the welfare of the people of Manipur, but incidents do happen, and this is an unexpected thing and incident because this violence does not rule out or can be ruled out that the people are against the government as it happened unexpectedly.

The six Naga legislators are Awangbow Newmai, J Kumo Sha, Ram Muivah, Leishiyo Keishing, Kashim Vashum, and Janghemlung Panmei.
